Mozy was founded in 2005 as a traditional online data backup service. Mozy is headquartered in Seattle, Washington with offices in Pleasant Grove, Utah; London, England; Cork, Ireland; and Shanghai, China.
Mozy creates their online backup solution based on 3 ideas they strongly believe:
Mozy makes backing up your data simple and easy. Initial setup involves signing up for your Mozy account, downloading the Mozy application, and following a simple step-by-step wizard to set up your backup. Mozy then works automatically encrypting and backing up your files to their secure servers. After initial backup is complete, Mozy is smart enough to only back up data that’s not already been backed up. Mozy also has a feature known as the Stash folder. The Stash folder makes it possible to keep your files up to date across your computers at work and home.
Security is Mozy’s biggest selling point. Mozy not only encrypts your backup files with 448-bit Blowfish by default, but also offers you the option to provide your own encryption key using 256-bit AES for added security. You can trust Mozy to protect your most confidential files with its secure and enterprise-level solution as all user data is encrypted locally with military-grade encryption prior to transfer via a secure SSL connection.
Mozy offers an Android, iOS, and Kindle Fire mobile apps to allow you to securely access the files you backed up with Mozy from your mobile devices. Travel plans saved to your desktop computer’s Stash folder, for example, are automatically accessible from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop within minutes.
Unlimited storage is important because back in 2003 files stored in your computer might be 10GB, and now you might have 75GB because you have so many more videos, photos, music, documents, and stuff like that! At the time of this writing, Mozy does not offer unlimited storage plan like other competitors do. If unlimited storage is important for you, you might have to look at MyPC Backup or other online backup providers.
Mozy offers an extensive library of tutorials and documentation guides to help get your backup set up and execute a restore should the time come. Based on your subscription, you can access phone, live chat or email support if you need extra help. Mozy provides 24/7 email support even on national holidays! However, Mozy’s phone support which has 2 minutes or less wait time is only available for MozyPro or MozyEnterprise subscription.
Mozy is a good choice for your online backup needs. Mozy has desktop applications for both Windows and Mac along with mobile apps for iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire. You can set up your backup once and then forget it as Mozy works automatically in the background backing up your files continuously. Mozy is well encrypted and equipped with a bandwidth throttle that allows you to reserve bandwidth for other Internet activities such as video streaming while the app is backing up. Overall, Mozy is a good choice to easily protect and sync your files and folders across all of your computers and mobile devices securely.
A friend recommended me to sign up with Mozy so did. I have been using Mozy for 2 days. I think it is a very robust backup and sync solution.
However, I can NOT find a way to share my backed up files with my friends and family. I would expect file sharing to be a standard feature.
If you don't need to share your backed up files, Mozy is great. If you need to share files or folders, you should look at providers such as MyPC Backup, JustCloud, SugarSync, etc...
