SugarSync is an online backup utility that does both backup and sync quite well. SugarSync has been in this business since 2004. SugarSync stores your files securely and keep the same version of that file available to all connected computers and mobile devices.
Let’s take a closer look at SugarSync in this review.
SugarSync is easy to use and effective. You can easily add folder(s) to be synchronised by dragging them to the SugarSync client. Alternatively, you can right click menu on folder(s) in Windows Explorer to add folder(s) to be synchronised.
SugarSync stores your files in their data centers using bank-grade 256 AES encryption. All your files are encrypted when they are transferred to and from their servers using Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption technology for secure web communications is superseding the current industry standard SSL. When sharing files and folders, SugarSync allows you to give permission for others to edit files or share a folder as “read-only”.
SugarSync has native mobile apps for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Symbian devices so you can access, view, and edit your files backed up from any of your mobile devices. Alternatively, you can access your files backed up remotely from any computer with Internet connection by simply logging into your SugarSync account at www.SugarSync.com.
At the time of this review, SugarSync does not offer unlimited plan for individual or business users. SugarSync offers free plan (5 GB) and paid plans (60 GB, 100 GB, 250 GB, 500 GB) for home users. If files you are planning to back up exceeds 500 GB, you should consider looking for an unlimited plan offered by online vendors such as MyPC Backup or Carbonite.
SugarSync provides video tutorials for new users to learn more about how to backup, access, sync and share their online files, photos, music and videos. SugarSync offers many free support options (live chat, knowledge base help, the SugarSync Community, and email support) for its customers to get help using the software. If you are someone that needs phone support, you have the option to pay $99.99 per year for unlimited phone support on your individual paid or free backup account.
SugarSync has a great user interface and its support for syncing any local folder makes it stand out among competitors. SugarSync is a very attractive option if you need flexibility of syncing different folders between your computers. We love the new user interface as it’s so easy and intuitive to use. But if you need unlimited backup, you might have to look for other online backup solutions such as MyPC Backup or Carbonite before SugarSync offers unlimited plan.
Thanks for your in-depth review of SugarSync. I really like SugarSync's flexibility of syncing different folders between my computers, but it's a little pricey to back up 235 GB of my data compared to other vendors such as MyPC Backup.
I do recommend it if you want a decent solution that allows you to sync any local folder between your computers! But if you're someone with more than 100 GB of data to back and looking for an affordable price, you should be looking at vendors such as MyPC Backup, JustCloud, Carbonite, etc...
